This overhead view of the Brainerd townsite was photographed in 1986 by Butler County officials as part of Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Property Valuation survey.

Note the abandoned schoolsite to the middle right of the frame and the old stockyard area in the lower lefthand corner. Both still exhibit signs of continuous human usage after years of abandonment in this unique aerial shot.
