The old Johnson house at the east end of Horner Street is now used by Jake Cornelius for storage. During our visit, he pried back some of the 1880s home's clapboard siding to reveal an interesting architectural detail. It seems the original builder had anchored the balloon frame stucture with intermittent slabs of cement or concrete, presumably to protect the house from the frequent Kansas windstorms.
