This original, 1885 town plat map showcases young Brainerd's high hopes. The densely planned town was slated to fill in on both sides of the railroad line, but most development occurred to the North, with Broadway as the main commercial drag. The original railroad depot was located on the southwestern corner of Broadway and the railroad tracks, where the Brainerd Feed Store now stands.
